Rhode Island’s remaining Old Growth forests need us.
Rhode Island’s remaining Old Growth Forests are in serious danger. Clearcutting for solar panels, development, and destructive logging pose a significant risk to these forests. One of the biggest issues is that the vast majority of people cannot tell an Old Growth Forest from a second growth forest, so they don’t think twice about cutting down these ancient trees. Currently, there are no laws in municipalities or the State of Rhode Island Protecting Old Growth Trees or Forests. We hope to change that.
About Rhode Island’s Old Growth Forests
Old Growth forests support a diverse web of life, are home to rare species, store carbon, and mitigate flooding and wildfire better than newer forests. Sadly, they remain unprotected.
Support the Old Growth Forest Bill
Rhode Island doesn’t have any laws protecting Old Growth forests. You can help change that by working with us to pass legislation.
